The governments of Ontario and Canada have come to a new agreement aimed to enhance the recruitment effort of skilled immigrants. The objective is to train them so they can fulfill the occupational requirements of the province.

The Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA) has a funding of $91 million in the next three years for bridge training programs. New immigrants will be able to fine tune their skills as per the professional standards that are set by Ontario.

The details of the agreement was disclosed on November 24^th. The agreement was signed between Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Laura Albanese and Minister of Immigration of Canada, Ahmed Hussen.

In the news release, the COIA has been established by the government with the objective to strengthen the joint efforts and to help new immigrants integrate easily into the country. It will help to boost the economy of the most prosperous and populous province in Canada.

The agreement will also be good for the shared humanitarian responsibilities and to attract more of the French-speaking immigrants to Ontario.

According to Ahmed Hussen, Ontario is one of the most preferred destination for new permanent residents who want to settle in Canada and the number usually exceeds 100,000 newcomers.

It is the right time to come up with such an agreement that defines on how Ontario and Canada will work together to achieve goals that is beneficial to both of them.

Hussen added that this new agreement is in line with the ambitious plan that has been set forth by Canada in the form of multi-year Immigration Levels Plan.

As per the new immigration plan nearly 1 million new immigrants will be welcomed to the country in the next three years from 2018 to 2020.

Albanese stated that this agreement is a win-win for both Canada and Ontario as it will be mutually beneficial to both of them.

The Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement will improve the ability of Ontario to get along with federal government with the objective to bring in skilled immigrants who will contribute to the economy of Canada and Ontario.

In the year 2017, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued a total of 6,000 nominations to candidates to become permanent resident of Canada.
